Itec now helping tackle youth unemployment in London through traineeships

We will now be able to help tackle youth unemployment in London after winning a contract to deliver traineeships, working with our subsidiary, The Centre.

Through working with The Centre’s key employer accounts in London, we will now be able to provide 19–24-year-olds with meaningful work experience opportunities to boost their chances of getting employment or an apprenticeship.

The latest Traineeship Programme announced by Chancellor Rishi Sunak in July 2020 is a £111m skills development programme that includes a work placement. It can last from six weeks up to one year, though most traineeships last six months on average.

Traineeships are designed to help young people aged 19-24 who may not have the appropriate skills, experience, or opportunity to find employment.

The programme is fully funded by the ESFA. Employers can apply to receive a financial incentive of £1,000 per trainee for up to 10 trainees once the placement has been successfully completed. A traineeship gives employers the chance to build a steady stream of high-quality recruits with the specific skills needed for their sector.

The programme also allows employers to mentor a young person. It will be looking to work with employers committed to investing in the future of young people and playing a part in rebuilding the country post COVID.

In addition to sourcing a high-quality work placement, we will also be delivering employability skills, maths, English and digital skills support if required from our premises on Old Street, EC1.

We are now asking London-based employers who have the capacity to do so to come forward and help us tackle the youth unemployment crisis by taking on a trainee. Not only will they be providing a much-needed opportunity to those who need it the most, but they will be recruiting an ideal candidate with job-specific skills that will benefit their business.
