Sal Pearman

History and experience

Sal has been working in People Development for 15 years. Sal specialises in Authentic Leadership, Positive Psychology, Equality and Inclusion, and organisation wide development programmes.

Sal delivers a range of services from course facilitation, EDI consulting, focus groups, workshops, and retreats on the themes of people development, values, identity, and creating flourishing work environments.

Sal holds an MSc in Human Resource Development and Consultancy from Birkbeck, University of London and this helps them ensure the learning approaches in our training are up to date and firmly grounded in theory as well as practice. Sal is a Fellow of RSA and has led workshops, research and consultancy projects on the themes of inclusive workplaces, values creation, and designing people strategies.

Sal works closely with HR and L&D teams to create learning solutions that are tailored and reinforce the culture, passion, purpose, and uniqueness of the organisations she supports. Sal is part of our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team with a special focus on unconscious bias and gender equality.

Sal’s work is driven by a passion for accessible and practical learning for everyone irrespective of background, gender, or societal barriers. This has led them to work in a range of contexts from social housing, not-for-profits, and charities right through to multinational corporations and retailers.

Sal is an Accredited Belbin & FIRO B Practitioner and uses these tools in coaching, awaydays and team building projects to help individuals and teams maps their strengths and areas for development.

Outside of the Centre, Sal volunteers with the sex and relationship education charity Life Lessons where her work is centred supporting young people in understanding their identity and rights in a UK context.

Originally Sal trained as an archaeologist and still manages to apply some of those experiences and stories to their work here, although Sal emphasises that it’s nothing like Indiana Jones!

This has led Sal to work in a range of contexts from social housing, not-for-profits and charities right through to multinational corporations and retailers. Recently, Sal has worked with The British Film Institute, The National Theatre, The British Library, Mind, Cineworld, Picturehouse, University of Kent, The Institute of Physics, Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy, The Association of Commonwealth Universities, and Edelman.

Training style

Sal’s approach is pragmatic and personal and their own values, and interest in diverse and inclusive organisations, shines through in the way they build and deliver projects.

Using a facilitative and collaborative approach Sal likes to make her workshops practical, driven by research and best practice, and tailored to the needs, interests, and challenges of each group they work with. Creating unique action plans for each learner is central to Sal’s training style – ensuring that each person gets the attention and support they need to succeed in their role.

Courses

Sal primarily develops bespoke development programmes for staff and managers and works closely with organisations to ensure these long term projects exactly meet the needs, plans and challenges of each workplace. Sal facilitates team, department and board awaydays and offers L&D and HRD consultancy which includes coaching, policy writing and focus groups. Sal is also part of our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team with a special focus on Gender Equality.
