Independent Trustee

The role will be for a 3-year term, with the possibility of an extension for up to a further 2 years. Year one will be considered a probation year affording all parties to grow and develop, ensuring all are working together in the most effective and appropriate way. Providing the success of year one, the successful applicant will continue in the role to complete the remainder of the term (3 years).

Associate Self-Employment: £750 per day

Location: Requirement to attend Cardiff for Trustee meetings, around four times a year.

The Role:

The Independent Trustee will have a responsibility as a member of the Employee Ownership Trust Board to ensure the interests of the beneficiaries in the business and to support the development of the Trust Board.

The Senior Leadership Team are seeking someone ideally with a background and knowledge of the Welsh labour market, employability, and skills sectors.  It would be helpful, although not essential, for applicants to be able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the opportunities and complexities of an employee-owned business.

With around four meetings per year and the associated preparation and contact with the Senior Leadership Team, this Independent Trustee will have the opportunity to work with the business to shape working relationships and board effectiveness.

  • Excellent communication skills with an instinct to listen first.
  • Confidence to challenge supportively and the interpersonal skills to continue to develop an effective trustee board.
  • An understanding of the legal duties, liabilities and responsibilities of trustees and clarity on the difference between governance functions and management functions.
  • No conflict of interest between this appointment and any other posts held elsewhere.
