KC Stephens is advising teenagers who are at a crossroads in their life – just like she was
“I thought going to college was the next thing you had to do,” admitted KC Stephens from Blaenavon, who managed to turn her life around after discovering training and support from ITEC.
The 22-year-old signed up as a learner through ITEC when she was 17 and then found an apprenticeship before securing a full-time job. Now she helps young people to get on the career ladder.
KC continued: “I always had odd jobs growing up and then after school, I went to college. I chose a childcare course because all my life I wanted to work with nursery or young kids, I thought I can’t work with teenagers because I felt like I was a horrible teenager!”
After four months at college, KC knew it wasn’t right for her. Luckily, her friend was on a course with ITEC at the time and recommended they might be able to help.
“My friend was telling me she was on work placement and earning a weekly wage, it sounded like something I wanted to try out and it seemed like a good alternative to college,” she said.
