In July 2023, Oliver Smith joined Itec’s Jobs Growth Wales+ programme with a clear goal in mind: to gain practical work experience that aligned with his career ambitions. Although he had previously achieved qualifications at college, Oliver felt that a more hands-on, work-based learning environment would better suit his aspirations.  

From the outset, Oliver demonstrated a high level of professionalism and maturity. He was placed on the employment strand, receiving dedicated support from Employability Officer Team Leader, Ruth Sainsbury. Understanding the importance of finding the right opportunity for Oliver, Ruth worked diligently to secure a placement that would allow him to thrive and grow in the workplace.  

Oliver’s passion lay in pursuing a career in IT, and soon a placement was secured for him at Avantis Marine Compliance Solutions. Avantis specialises in smart engineering solutions for the conservation of critical assets and infrastructure within the marine, offshore oil, gas, and renewables sectors. Over the past six months, Avantis has worked closely with Oliver to help him develop his skills and lay the foundation for his career.  

Impressed by his dedication and progress, Avantis transitioned Oliver from a placement to full-time employment, emphasising both his hard work and commitment to personal growth.  

To further enhance his knowledge and career prospects, Oliver recently began an apprenticeship with Itec.  At Itec, we guide individuals through every step of their employment journey, from entry-level positions to management roles, helping them achieve their dream careers. It is truly inspiring to witness Oliver’s incredible progress.
