Connor Finlay x EE
Finding Fullfilment
Before joining EE and discovering Itec, Connor Finlay had attended college to acquire a Level 2 Carpentry apprenticeship. However, he felt that there was too much of a difference between the classroom and practical learning, which made completing assignments difficult.
Connor began his Level 2 Customer Service apprenticeship after applying for a role at EE. This was an unexpected path for him, and he was unsure about what the future held. Itec has partnered with EE to deliver its ‘Aspire’ programme, a customer service apprenticeship aimed at helping individuals grow both personally and professionally. Through this programme, apprentices like Connor gain valuable skills while building meaningful careers in a dynamic customer service environment.
Jaqueline Gwillim, one of Itec’s many dedicated assessors, is committed to helping apprenticeship cohorts in EE reach their greatest potential. She is always available to offer support and works closely with learners to ensure they are learning effectively. Work-based learning offers apprentices the opportunity to learn practical on the job skills, while assignments are tailored to be based on what learners do in their day-to-day role. Despite Connor feeling nervous when he first joined EE, this approach to learning was much more effective for him.
Now, Connor feels a confident in his role and within himself. Interacting with customers feels like second nature to him and he has found fulfilment in helping others. Excited about his career path, Connor has been developing his skills throughout October by assisting new members of staff and taking on new shift patterns. He hopes to become a Lead Coach in the future to train and develop future apprenticeship cohorts.
The advice that Connor would give to anyone interested in pursuing an apprenticeship is: “Go for it, it’s the best way to learn, because you’re an apprentice you’ll get more support.”
