Caige Lloyd
Harnessing the Power of Personal Growth
Seventeen-year-old Caige Lloyd always believed in his potential to excel, especially when engaged in hands-on activities. While the traditional school environment presented challenges, particularly in large group settings, it was clear that Caige had the drive and determination to succeed. His journey took a hopeful turn when he was placed in the GATEway project, which offered a more personalised learning experience. Here, with a reduced timetable, Caige began to find his footing, setting the stage for new opportunities and growth that would soon come his way.
The direction of Caige’s journey changed when he joined the Jobs Growth Wales+ (JGW+) programme with Itec in Pontypridd. From the start, Caige received unwavering support from his tutor, Stacy Barnes, whose guidance was essential in his transformation. He joined the advancement strand of JGW+, where the carefully balanced combination of classroom activities and practical experience which allowed him to further develop the essential skills needed for employment. Under Stacy’s mentorship, Caige went from finding it difficult to complete full days in group settings to becoming a role model for his peers. He started by completing his Entry Level 3 Employability Qualification at the Itec centre, which laid the foundation for his next steps.
Recognising Caige’s passion and potential, Employability Officer James Loveridge worked closely with him, taking the time to understand his interests, particularly in mechanics. Through these discussions, a clear path began to emerge. Caige was placed to William Healy to gain hands-on experience, and James continued to support him throughout his placement, ensuring that Caige was progressing and staying motivated.
The placement proved to be a turning point. Caige’s commitment and enthusiasm shone through, leading him to advance to Level 1 in Light Vehicle Maintenance, where he achieved a distinction—a testament to his hard work and dedication. James, who regularly checked in on Caige’s progress, described him as “the perfect example of someone with all the potential in the world, who just needed the right environment to thrive.”
Now, Caige has transitioned from being a learner to securing full-time employment with Valley Tyre Service Ltd. He is thriving in his new role, where his punctuality, strong work ethic, and determination are highly regarded. His employers praise him for his continuous growth and dedication, noting that he has gone from strength to strength.
James Loveridge summed up Caige’s journey, saying, “Caige is the perfect ambassador for Itec Skills at Valley Tyres. He should be incredibly proud of how he has represented himself on placement, which has now blossomed into his full-time job. Da Iawn (Well done).”
Caige looks back at his time on the Jobs Growth Wales+ programme, saying “If i was to give advice to a young person, it would be to set goals and always work to achieve them. I’m now in full-time employment as a result of the guidance and support from Itec. I could be you.”
Caige’s story is a powerful testament to the impact of the Jobs Growth Wales+ programme, showing how the right support and opportunities can unlock a young person’s true potential, leading them to a promising and fulfilling career.
